To answer you in short: yeah, it should probably be "end". But it wouldn't be a Haiku that way :-P
The longer answer would be this: People call the start a beginning, not a begin, right?
I guess I don't know. I'm reminded of this:
"I Am the alpha and the omega, the first and the last, the beginning, and the end." (thereby proving your point. . .)
according to the Oxford English Dictionary, end and ending are synonymous.
